Meds Organization Tips
Many of our patients tell us that when there are three or more medications to deal with each day there can be confusion and even missed use of medications as prescribed by the doctor. Here are a few tips to help you organize the task of keeping track of what meds are due when so you don’t forget to use them as prescribed.
- If you have a smart phone such as a Droid or iPhone you can download an app from several choices. The apps help you track not only which meds to take but when to take them. Look for iPillsBox and it’s a free app!
- You can spend a few dollars ($4 in this case) and download an app called MedsLog. This is an app that lets you set an alarm to remind you when to take your meds including prescriptions and over the counter pills, creams and ointments. Plus there’s no limit to how many drugs you can add to the schedule. It tracks when to take your next dose, as well as stats such as blood pressure and blood sugar readings and even lets you email data to yourself or your medical professionals.
- If you can’t remember when you last took a dose there is a very cool med bottle cap for about $3.50 that is a TIMER CAP. It has a digital built-in timer that resets when you open the bottle, so you know exactly when you took your last dose and when the next one is due. We like this idea!
- If you’re a busy person, on the go all the time there’s a solution for you too. Just get organized with alarms. Again, your smart phone has this built in but you can also use any of a wide range of other options. Ask your pharmacist about such options.
In summary, it’s important to stay on track with your meds and there are a few interesting ways to help you with this task. Always feel free to ask any of us here at the Dr. Susan Biegel office about options to help make your life easier. We’re all interested in your good health!
